Part 2: My 50 Canvas Project – Ink Painting on Canvas Board

March 31, 2024 :: by Linda Jo Martin

I had to take a break from the project but I’m picking it up again now and will make another attempt. For me, the days won’t be consecutive but they will continue until all 50 8×10 canvas boards are painted. I’m using Daler-Rowney FW acrylic ink.

Day #21

This is a likeness of a photograph my 10-year-old granddaughter took of herself using my phone.

Day #22

I didn’t manage to finish this one in only two days but for now I’m setting it aside so I can start another canvas. According to the terms of my project I’ll work on each canvas for two days then set it aside and start another. I can go back to this and finish it when the project is complete.

Day #23

Oh my goodness, this was more complex than I expected. It is from a photo of a group of people at our local art gallery about 2005.

Day #24

I do love this painting, but I didn’t finish it. This will be something for me to finish when I’m done with the 50 canvases.

Day #25

This is inspired by a photo of my son when he was about 12 but it doesn’t look like him exactly.

Day #26

I think this is one of my best to-date.

Day #27

I’m calling this one “New Year’s Eve Party Girl” for now.

Day #28

This was hard to paint because I chose the wrong photo to paint from. The girl is turned at a strange angle and her mouth was slightly open. Okay, maybe this was good practice for me. Also the face was completely lighted with no shadows. I need to be more careful in choosing photographs to paint!

Day #29

Day one – a sketch of my Idaho pastor.

Day #30

Day two – The painting… it turned out to slightly resemble him. I’m happy with this effort in my continuing effort to learn portrait painting. Took me long enough to do this though. I just finished reading The Letters of Vincent Van Gogh and was fascinated by his daily painting work… often one painting a day, toward the end, and they were some of his best. Today’s painting was done with only three colors of the acrylic ink: sepia, peach, and white!

Day #31

Day one – It is two boys facing off in some kind of water fight. I am loving this background using four shades of green.

Day two – Water Fight Boys – because boys will be boys.

About Me

Hi! I'm Linda Jo Martin, an artist in training. Formerly I was a xhtml/css web designer. This used to be my webdesign business site. Since I retired I've preserved the old articles about webdesign business issues but transformed the site for my adventures in creativity. This includes art, writing, and whatever else comes up in the creativity sector of life. I also review books. I'll review art books here, but my main site for book reviews is Linda Book Lady.

Hello – I’m going to use this corner of the universe to tell you how happy I am that you stopped by to visit my site. This website has been a long-term project for me. I started my webdesign business back around 2002 and used it to supplement my meager income while my children were growing up. What a joy it was to be able to earn some money and help support the family! However now my children are adults and I’m retired. I still live in the Klamath River Valley here in far-northern California. My heart and thoughts have turned to art, something I saved for my retirement years. I call myself an artist in training, but truly, I think artistry training should never end.
